Bristol Rovers has named Premier League Kicks participant Cameron as their Premier League Community Captain, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the Premier League Kicks project and support for other young people in the local community.
Presentations to Community Captains are taking place at more than 100 clubs across the Premier League, EFL, and National League as part of the Premier League’s More Than A Game focus period, celebrating those at the heart of Premier League-funded programmes who deserve recognition for contributions to the game and society.
Cameron was named Bristol Rovers’ Community Captain for his exceptional dedication to volunteering at Premier League Kicks sessions and for leading the Rebooted campaign, which sees donated football boots refurbished and distributed to local young people who need them.
Over the next two weeks, the Premier League’s More Than A Game Trophy Tour is highlighting the impact of Premier League funding throughout the football pyramid and the work delivered by club foundations in communities which positively impact millions of lives
The League is investing £1.6 billion into football and communities between 2022 and 2025.
This includes funding for community projects run by 164 professional and non-league clubs, supporting people of all ages who need it most, as well as providing much-needed funding to non-league, grassroots and women's clubs to enhance stadium facilities for players and fans.
Cameron was awarded his accolade by Promise Omochere and Kamil Conteh at a Bristol Rovers Premier League Kicks session on Tuesday, where he is both a participant and volunteer.
Having received his award, Cameron then headed to The Memorial Stadium where club captain Scott Sinclair presented him with the Community Captain’s armband, in-front of the Memorial Stadium crowd for Bristol Rovers game against Stockport County.
On receiving the award, Cameron said: “I’m really shocked but I’m happy they picked me. I wanted to raise awareness that anyone can play football, it’s free, it’s fun.
“I’ve just met Sinclair, my dream player as well. This is the best day ever you know, I’m just so excited, it’s the new year and it’s just getting better. Watching the Gas play, meeting my favourite players, seeing the Premier League trophy. It’s a dream come true.”
Bristol Rovers Captain Scott Sinclair said: “I think Cam’s idea has been unbelievable and what he has thought about, giving boots to the community and people who haven’t got enough money to afford boots, I think it’s a great, great thing he has done.
“It goes to show what a nice boy he is, you know, growing up and thinking about everyone else. The Premier League Community Captain is a great award, much deserved.”
Community Coach at Bristol Rovers Community Trust Will Dixon added: "Cameron is a fantastic role model and truly embodies what our community programmes are all about. His dedication to volunteering and making football accessible for all is inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him as our Community Captain. Whether it’s volunteering at a Premier League Kicks sessions or leading initiatives like Rebooted, Cam’s passion and commitment to helping others is second to none."
Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparallelled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
